Community Watch Update

Southern Village now has an established Community Watch program. As of today, each street has been assigned a street captain. It is our hope that you have already been contacted by your street captain. If not, please send an e-mail to and we will help you get signed up. Communication is the foundation of a successful Community Watch program, thus it is very important that everyone consider signing up in the weeks ahead. Please do your part to ask your neighbors to join up as well.

Additionally, the Community Watch program has a subcommittee focused exclusively on traffic issues, specifically those issues that directly relate to child safety. This subcommittee has already met formally with several Town of Chapel Hill employees, including the police department and several traffic engineers. As a result of these meetings, some new stop signs will be added to selected streets next month. Also, some of the existing stop signs will be better marked with permanent orange flags. Finally, next month several crosswalks will enhanced by adding more signage and in some cases more paint on the road. If you any interest in joining this important committee, please send an e-mail to and we will help you get signed up.
